# 16th & Monon Survey: Public De-identified Data

This directory is the public data release for the 16th & Monon survey, open June 11 to July 11, 2026 and frozen July 15, 2026 (n = 123). It supports verification of published survey findings without releasing respondent identities, contact details, precise submission timing, petition-level records, geography linked to a response, or raw narrative text.

## Files

- `responses_public_2026-07-15.csv` is limited row-level categorical microdata.
- `responses_public_summary_2026-07-15.csv` is the authoritative public aggregate table. It includes questions omitted from microdata, the petition totals, and approved suppressed cross-tabs.
- `responses_public_quotes_2026-07-15.csv` contains only quotations already vetted and published anonymously in the community report.

## De-identification rules

The release removes Timestamp, Email Address, Q1 name, neighborhood, all open-text response fields, Q24 petition choice, and P1–P4 petition information. The original five respondent types are generalized into four groups: adjacent resident, surrounding resident, local business owner or worker, and nonresident trail user or visitor. The occasional-visitor response is combined with nonresident trail users.

The row-level file contains only categorical fields whose released values each have at least five records. Multi-select write-ins are excluded. Rare geography is shown only in the summary as `Other neighborhoods (<5 each)`. Cross-tab cells below five are suppressed. Q10/Q11 is released as the five-category greenspace preference using the published rule that an unspecified mix is an even split.

This is a de-identified dataset, not a guarantee of anonymity. A person with outside knowledge of a respondent's answers may still infer information from a row-level survey release. Do not attempt to re-identify respondents or combine these files with private contact lists.

## Microdata data dictionary

- `respondent_group`: generalized Q2 respondent type.
- `greenspace_preference`: five-category Q10/Q11 result.
- `feels_safe_crossing`: Q7 grouped as Safe or Not safe or neutral.
- `prefers_keep_or_improve_design`: Q9 grouped as Yes or No or unsure.
- `optional_section_completed`: continuation choice before the optional section.
- `witnessed_close_call_or_accident`: Q19, including Not answered.
- `belief_1_agreement` through `belief_4_agreement`: Q18 items, grouped as Agree, Neutral, Disagree, or Not answered.
- `q4_*`: selected travel-mode indicators from Q4.
- `q12_*`, `q13_*`, `q14_*`, and `q15_*`: selected-option indicators for the named multi-select question. `Yes` means the option was selected; `No` means it was not. Columns that would create a cell below five are omitted.

The summary CSV uses original question IDs and contains full response labels, denominator, count, and percentage for every released aggregate.

## Provenance and verification

The source of record is the private file `reports/sources/responses_frozen_2026-07-15.csv` (SHA-256 `f5f20f03ca17eccf08190af4fa68cf9b0d49f5f724643d6973c0b6e83a7a543a`). It is cleaned according to `../../data-cleanup-log.md`. Run `python3 build_public_survey_data.py --check` from the `greenspace` directory to validate the release; run without `--check` to rebuild it.
