# 16th & Monon Speed Study: Public Data

This release contains the structured PRE/POST speed and pedestrian-interaction data collected at 16th Street and the Monon Trail in spring 2026. It includes 30 observation sessions, 8,988 individual speed observations, 1,040 interval-by-severity interaction records, 103 traffic forms, and the derived analysis tables used for public reporting.

## Privacy treatment

Volunteer names and initials were replaced consistently with `Volunteer A` through `Volunteer P`. The private mapping is intentionally not published. Source filenames, extraction paths, free-text notes, handwritten shift identifiers, and raw weather text were removed because they are not needed to reproduce the quantitative findings and could reveal volunteer identities or internal collection details. Public session, form, and observation IDs were regenerated.

This release is pseudonymized rather than guaranteed anonymous: a person with outside knowledge of the collection schedule may still infer who participated in a particular session. Please do not attempt to re-identify volunteers.

## Files

- `speed_observations_public.csv`: one row per measured vehicle, with phase-linked session/form IDs, date, vehicle type, direction, measured speed, speed band, and threshold flags.
- `interaction_counts_public.csv`: interval-level counts by interaction severity and road-user type; raw handwritten notes are excluded.
- `survey_sessions_public.csv`: session dates, times, phase, location, and stable volunteer pseudonyms.
- `traffic_forms_public.csv`: public session/form relationships, page, direction, times, duration, and stable volunteer pseudonyms.
- `analysis/*.csv`: derived session, direction, vehicle-type, speed-distribution, threshold, volume, and interaction-severity tables. Original source-file fields are excluded.

## Interpretation

The observations compare conditions before and after the April 25, 2026 tactical installation. They are strong descriptive PRE/POST evidence, not a randomized causal study. Sessions vary by date, time, weather, and traffic conditions, and individual vehicle observations are clustered within sessions.
